STRESS AND THE DAMAGE IT DOES

Knowing what stress can do to you can cause stress! For example, when the body is stressed, muscles tense up. Rapid breathing can bring on a panic attack.

Chronic stress may cause inflammation in the circulatory system and create a path to a heart attack. Stress can affect brain-gut communication; triggering pain and bloating. Headaches, muscle or chest pain, fatigue, nausea and poor sleep are all common symptoms of stress. Your response may be over or under eating, anger, substance abuse, isolation and apathy. Stress launches a full-scale attack on the body and brain.

A LITTLE STRESS CAN BE A GOOD THING

“Try to relax” may sound like a good idea when you are stressed, but it’s not the best advice. Instead, get active with something you know and enjoy. Even better if it’s something that gets you into a familiar and friendly social situation. Take on a challenge: one of your choice and not one you’re forced into. Eat well. Exercise. And if there is something you don’t much like but have to do, find a way to do it smarter.
